To Move Faster, Remove Friction.
To move faster 🚀, you don’t always need more horsepower. Sometimes, you just need to clean the gears ⚙️. The concept is simple: friction slows things down. But most teams don't realize how much hidden friction they're carrying. Without someone to deliberately scrape the gunk out of the system, things grind slower and the wear-and-tear on people becomes costly. I created the visual below to capture some key hidden frictions... and what they sound like in the day-to-day:
- ❓ Lack of Clarity: "I’m in this monthly review asking myself: What is the intent here? Am I a customer of this rhythm or a supplier? And why do expectations change every time we meet?"
- ⭐ Lack of Prioritization: "We agreed on 5 priorities. Now there are 5 more. Am I supposed to drop the first 5 or just work twice as hard?"
- 🔀 Misalignment: "Big-boss X says 'Go Left' and Big-boss Y says 'Go Right.' Y reports to X... do they even talk to each other?"
- 🔛 Context Switching: A calendar of 8 randomly scattered 30-minute meetings, a non-stop stream of pings, and a parade of 'quick' Teams calls.
- 🥷 Shadow Processes: "There’s an official portal for this, but it’s such a pain that we just track everything in excel to actually get the work done."
- 🤝 Approval Debt: "I need 6 signatures for a $5k investment, and four of those people have nothing to do with the decision."
